Upset Diners

My husband and I were at dinner last night at a nice restaurant. Service was great, food was wonderful, and we were having a great time. Two women were seated at a booth next to us and really ruined the evening. The entire time they were there they were complaining. Complaining about everything you could imagine. The lights were too dim, they were offered to be moved to another table. They chose a bottle of wine, and said it was gross. Keep in mind they chose this wine. So they asked for another one, and the waitress complied. Since they only serve by the bottle here, that will go to waste. I think you get the idea, everything was wrong to them. At the end of the night the manager made a very nice gesture to come talk to them to see if they enjoyed their dinner. And even after the waitress accommodated their every need, they were saying how awful she was. In the end they had a big discount on their bill and were still complaining because it was expensive. I was so blown away by their attitudes and lack of consideration for other diners. I know they were just doing this to get a freebie, we had the same waitress and she did a really good job for both tables. It is just upsetting that someone so rude gets a discount on their bill while my husband and I pay full price.

I am a server in a nice resturant that strives for five star service. Some people you just can't please and it is frustrating and leaves the server wondering what he/she has done wrong. Thank you for not being like the table you described. How can people be so stingy. If you can't afford to go out to a nice place for dinner then you should just stay in.

There's the old saying you can't please all of the people all the time. It sure sounds like this is the situation. There was nothing that the server could have done to make these two women happy. Sometimes I wonder if people go into restaraunts and be nasty the whole time just so they can get a discount on their bill.

Unfortunately people have figured out how to milk the system especially in these economic hard times. The main reason their rude behavior was “awarded” was because when you have bad service you tell 10 times more people than if you had a great meal. Yes I understand that those people did NOT have bad service, but were complaining about everything. But, most managers are amazing ass-kissers and want to please bitchy customers. For that same reason I refuse to work in restaurants anymore. I hate having to bend over backwards for a**holes and it’s a waste of money (and time) to try and please those kinds of people. Like Jennifer said, you can’t please everyone.

I worked fast food for many years and there were always those people that caused problems, some of them were repeat offenders, such as the guy who wanted burnt sausage on his sausage biscuits. It was never burnt enough, even though it was barely edible. His wife also threw a burger at me once for it not being burnt enough, crazy people. They are some that I do not miss!
