Obama Inauguration

Well we now have a new president. What an amazing point in our history. This is what Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned so many years ago. I honestly never thought i would see an african american sworn in as our president. What a proud moment in history.

Margaret (and others who watched), what did you think of the iconography of the event?

I had a chance to watch it in class and I must say I was moved. Not because of Obama's speech really, but by the sheer number of people so enamored with him. As the camera panned through the exuberant crowd you could almost feel the emotion that they were emitting. Everywhere you looked people were crying, chanting, and screaming for Obama. I was especially pleased with the very precise words of Rick Warren. His speech was awesome and I was so happy he led the country in a prayer for the man who will now be leading our great nation. Although Obama is a symbol of hope, that doesn't mean he will be able to fix everything. I have growing concern for the people who believe that this economic crisis will be resolved in a matter of months. Hard times lie ahead and it will not be easy to pull everyone out of debt AND stimulate the economy again. As free as America is, lets not forget that freedom is NOT free.
